Maybe it's the bass riff at the beginning of White Lines, the intro to Crazy in Love, Tom Verlaine's sinuous, awkward guitar solos, the crunching throb of Red Hot Chili Peppers or the irresistible synths of Kraftwerk, but what's certain is that certain sonic sensations trigger us as much as any melody or riff ever could.
Often it's the bass, in fact make that very often, but the visceral gut-punch of sounds that thrill us to our very core is music's dirty secret, because it's the rattle and hum of a record that's the most important bit!
