Schuur X Suburban Records X Haarlem Vinyl Festival: Squaring the Circle (The Story of Hipgnosis)

Haarlem Vinyl celebrates vinyl culture, Schuur and Suburban Records join the party with four film screenings. All films were selected by Suburban's artists, who will be present to introduce them. They have one thing in common: it's their unique soundtrack that sets them apart, created by the legendary likes of Ry Cooder, Nigel Godrich en Jonny Greenwood. The first long documentary by photographer and film maker Anton Corbijn tells the story about Storm Thorgerson and Aubrey "Po" Powell, the creative geniuses behind the design studio Hipgnosis.

Hipgnosis was established at the end of the sixties in Cambridge and became a staple in the seventies. Thorgerssn and Powell were responsible for a few of the most recognisable album covers ever. During this period, it weren't the labels to tell acts such as Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Paul McCartney how their sleeves should look like - Storm and Po did that. Their iconic album covers left a remarkable influence on pop culture in the seventies.

The film contains interviews with Roger Waters, David Gilmour and Nick Mason of Pink Floyd, Jimmy Page & Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin, Paul McCartney, Peter Gabriel, Noel Gallagher and many more.

Hipgnosis werd eind jaren zestig opgericht in Cambridge en was op het toppunt van de roem in de jaren zeventig. Met hun iconische albumhoezen hebben ze een onuitwisbare invloed gehad op de popcultuur in de jaren zeventig.
