How much influence does a protest song have? When does a song lyric become political? And what responsibility does an artist bear in times of injustice?
HOST: REMCO VAN EIJNDHOVEN, CULTURE-CRAZED CATERPILLAR WHO LIKES TO MAKE THINGS HAPPEN | INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS COORDINATOR AT CONSERVATORIUM HAARLEM
FEATURING: – MARIA ALYOKHINA (PUSSY RIOT), MELANIE SCHILLER AND OTHERS
During this conversation, we delve into the meaning of words in protest music. Together with artists, writers, and thinkers, we explore how language functions as a weapon, mirror, and shout. What does a song lyric do when the stage suddenly turns into a platform? How do poetry, activism, and the performing arts relate to each other?
We discuss concrete examples from the past and present, and reflect on current events where the voice of the artist was either silenced or amplified.
This session will also be recorded and released afterwards as a podcast, for those who missed it or want to experience it again.
