The Electronic Works by Ton de Leeuw - Quadrophonic Listening Session

Jos Smolders presents the first release of Dutch Oscillation Series, the complete electronic works of Ton de Leeuw. The next few years the series will continue with a wide selection of 20th century Dutch electronic music.

In this special listening session we will play a selection of the music on vinyl and a few of the compositions will be presented in a quadrophonic setup. Electronic music in the 1960s was primarily composed for public presentation and often in a multichannel format. This will be a first public presentation of the music in over 50 years the way it was supposed to sound like. 

Jos Smolders (NL) is a composer of electronic and electroacoustic music with 40 years of experience under his belt. Next to his own practice he is also a mastering engineer and restoration engineer. His restoration catalog contains many classic electronic works, industrial music and sound poetry, ranging from Pierre Henry to Peter Beyls and Barton McLean. Jos tells about his restoration practice of classic electronic music in general and about the series in particular. 

About the Dutch Oscillation Series project
Ton de Leeuw was a well-known composer in the twentieth century. Everywhere in the Netherlands where music was being renewed, you would come across his name. He composed, of course, but also taught, wrote books on electronic music, reviewed, and had a radio program for years.

Within this project, the iniators are bringing eight works, created between 1956 and 1982, back to the public. Some compositions have not been heard for 50 years. The music has largely been digitized again from the original master tapes. After that, everything has been restored in high resolution and new binaural mixes have been made based on the composer's original instructions.
