Iran - The Golden Eras by Katayoun

Katayoun is a curator, DJ, and digger/selector from Iran, known from her work at Kiosk Radio. Her practice moves between collecting, archiving, DJing, and storytelling and always centering the music and the histories it carries.

In this session, she takes the audience through the 1970s golden era of vinyl in Iran, followed by the evolution of the Iranian music industry in Los Angeles from the 1980s onwards. The 1979 Revolution created a profound rupture in how music was produced, circulated, and perceived. Through a wide variety of records, Katayoun traces those shifts and reveals layers of meaning that resonate before and after that turning point.

Katayoun guides you through each record, pausing to share the stories behind the music: where it was made, who made it, and why it mattered.
