Haarlem Pop Music in a Record Case

Music journalist Peter Bruyn and vinyl DJ Sjef Huurdeman pack up the record case and take you on a whirlwind ride through Haarlem's impressive pop music history — from Lou Bandy on 78 RPM to Eskalatie on 33.

On this afternoon, music journalist Peter Bruyn and vinyl DJ Sjef Huurdeman travel at breakneck speed through the impressive history of pop music along the Spaarne. Somewhere in the 1960s, the seeds were planted for a fertile ground for pop music in the Spaarnestad. Was it the sea air, the many record labels, or the literary climate?

Exclusively for Haarlem Vinyl Festival and in collaboration with the Historische Vereniging Haerlem (celebrating its anniversary) and Pletterij, Bruyn and Huurdeman put their own spin on the musical history of the city and region.

An exhibition of Haarlem record sleeves can be visited throughout the week at gallery Het Naaiatelier and other locations along the Spaarnwouderstraat.
