Get to know Boaz Roelevink, one of the most promising young voices in Dutch roots music.
Boaz Roelevink was born on January 20, 2002 in the Frisian town of Franeker, but when he was one and a half years old, he moved with his family to South Africa. There was a lot of music played in the family, and he quickly discovered his love for country, blues, and soul. Among the vineyards around the house, young Boaz often stood singing with his father. At the age of 13, and now back in the Netherlands with his family, he picked up a guitar, and so it happened.
After reaching the final in the SBS6 talent show We Want More in 2020, Boaz realized that he wanted to dedicate his life to music. He began writing his own songs and, in collaboration with more experienced musicians like Maurice van Hoek and Mercy John, he developed his skills as a songwriter. The promising result was the album 'Keep It Simple', with eleven heartfelt guitar songs rooted in American roots music, in which he lyrically incorporates his life lessons and experiences. Things he has been through and cherishes, about his family, his first love, his first broken heart, and other sorrows. But always from a glass-half-full approach.
Since the release of his debut in September 2022, Boaz has been on a fast track. His music, especially the single 'Lovestreet 55', stands out on the radio (Giel Beelen, Spijkers Met Koppen, Daniel Dekker) and attracts more audience to his performances. As a 'Future Talent', he travels through cities and towns to play at the Popronde. During this period, he is also a guest on 'Matthijs Gaat Door' to perform his first single 'Midnight Train' with the 'Sven Hammond Big Band'.
In the spring of 2023, his first club tour in collaboration with MOJO will start. This tour will visit key venues throughout the Netherlands. In addition to his role in 'The Passion', Boaz was appointed as the Frisian Ambassador of Freedom on May 5. This marked the beginning of the festival season where Boaz and his band performed at more than 20 events. What this now 22-year-old Boaz always dreamed of is slowly becoming a reality.
