Audio-Technica and Time Capsule Present: Geinoh Yamashirogumi — Ecophony Rinne

Kay Suzuki of the Time Capsule label introduces the fantastic world of the legendary Japanese group Geinoh Yamashirogumi, including an album listening session of their groundbreaking 1986 album Ecophony Rinne on vinyl, using the high-end Audio-Technica ART20 cartridge to produce the ‘Hypersonic Effect” captured on this half-speed mastered reissue.

The sessions take place in Teylers Museum, the oldest museum in the Netherlands, open since 1784. Surrounded by almost 250 years of art, science and history, the museum’s monumental spaces create a unique environment for this contemporary listening experience. Here, the architecture, atmosphere and music come together to offer a different way of listening.

The music is played through the FFF Sound System, a high-fidelity, four-way horn-loaded system designed and built in Rotterdam by Form Follows Frequency. Created for critical listening, the system combines precision, clarity and powerful dynamics. For each session, the sound is carefully tuned to the specific acoustics of the room, allowing every detail of the music to come through with exceptional clarity.

One of the most innovative and ambitious albums ever made, Geinoh Yamashirogumi’s Ecophony Rinne is a sonic masterpiece featuring over 200 musicians that expanded the limits of what music and sound could do. Originally released in 1986, Ecophony Rinne is a four-part symphony of “ecological music” by Geinoh Yamashirogumi that married ancient tradition with technological innovation, and changed the way we listen to music in the process.

Experience Geinoh Yamashirogumi’s Ecophony Rinne at Teylers Museum.
