Five key tips to make the most out of Record Store Day 2026

16 April 2026

This Saturday is Record Store Day and the vibe around vinyl right now is hard to ignore. Independent record stores across the world are gearing up for one of their best Saturdays of the year, with over 350 exclusive pressings hitting the shelves worldwide.

Whether you're a seasoned crate digger or showing up for your first RSD, here's how to make the most of Saturday, April 18 and why the fun doesn't stop there. As the team behind the Haarlem Vinyl Festival, we know a thing or two about celebrating vinyl culture and we're here to help you make the most of RSD 2026.

What if you don't manage to grab everything on your list this weekend? Don't panic. RSD Drops brings a second wave of exclusive releases later in the year, giving you another shot at the ones that got away. These are our five key tips:

1. Check the Official Release List

The RSD release list is where the magic starts, your map to the day's treasures. This year there are over 350 exclusive titles to dig through, so highlight your must-haves and double-check them tonight. Some highlights to look out for: Arcade Fire's Open Your Heart or Die Trying, Bruce Springsteen's live Asbury Park set, Pink Floyd's Live From the LA Sports Arena and Charli XCX's Party 4 U. Whatever your taste, there's something on the list for you. Releases are limited, and once they're gone... well, there's always Discogs.

2. Set Your Alarm or Time It Right

Want that ultra-rare splatter pressing? Get in line early, most stores open between 8 and 9am. Prefer a more relaxed dig? Show up mid-morning when the crowd thins. Either way, bring snacks, wear comfy shoes, and maybe pack a folding chair if your shop is known for long queues.

3. Budget Smart, Dig Smarter

RSD can be overwhelming. Prices are often higher due to the limited nature of releases, so set a budget and try to stick to it. And remember: the best finds aren't always on the RSD list. Dig through the crates for overlooked gems and keep an eye out for staff picks. The people behind the counter usually know where the gold is buried.

4. Make It a Day (Not Just a Pickup)

RSD is about community. Hang out. Talk music. Discover new artists. Catch the in-store performances. Support indie labels. This year's US ambassador Bruno Mars said it well: independent record stores give you the chance to truly immerse yourself in music, to be physically surrounded by it in a way no streaming service can replicate.

5. Stay in the Loop

If RSD releases sell out faster than expected, watch out for RSD Drops later in the year, a second chance to land the titles that slipped through your fingers on the day. Follow your favourite shops and artists and don't forget us.

From October 2 to 4, join us in Haarlem to keep that spirit alive, where we turn vinyl culture into a full festival weekend with talks, crate digging, listening sessions, art, DJ sets, live music, and more.

We'll be sharing Haarlem Vinyl Festival 2026 updates, artist announcements, and early bird ticket info throughout the rest of spring and summer.
