Pitchblack Playback: John Coltrane Centenary, Highlights from 1957–1964

Coltrane would have turned 100 this year, and Teylers Museum marks it with a deep listening session in complete darkness. Highlights from 1957 to 1964 trace his path through hard bop, modal jazz and freer forms of improvisation, played on the horn-loaded FFF Sound System. No latecomers allowed.

Record Fair hosted by Record Planet
Round two on the Grote Markt. The Zwarte Liefde Container returns for an afternoon packed with vinyl DJ sets, and Funky Vinyl brings another day dedicated to Haarlem's local DJ and vinyl scene.

Independent labels from Haarlem, Amsterdam and beyond come together at PHIL for a day of records, new discoveries and direct conversations with the people behind the music. Expect recent releases, limited editions and overlooked catalogue titles, from experimental electronics and ambient to indie, punk and underground pop.

Audio-Technica and Time Capsule Present: Geinoh Yamashirogumi - Ecophony Rinne

Geinoh Yamashirogumi are the legendary Japanese collective best known for the Akira soundtrack. Kay Suzuki introduces their world with a listening session of their groundbreaking 1986 album Ecophony Rinne. The vinyl master sounded so much better than the CD that founder Shoji Yamashiro spent the next 14 years researching why.

Iran - The Golden Eras by Katayoun
Kiosk Radio curator and digger Katayoun takes you through the 1970s golden era of vinyl in Iran and the Iranian music industry that grew up in Los Angeles after the 1979 Revolution, pausing to share the stories behind each record. At 15:00 she moves to PHIL Café for a one-hour DJ set.

25 Years of Pergola Listening Session
Some albums you just let wash over you. Pergola is one of them, only this time you get the story between the tracks too. Jacob de Greeuw and producer Frans Hagenaars spin the album on vinyl from start to finish and share how each track came together, with Menno Pot moderating. Stick around for a signing session in the downstairs foyer afterwards. Dutch spoken.

From Havana to Haarlem, DJ Jigüe traces the history of Cuban music through rare vinyl, from its golden age to today's Afro-Cuban underground. At 17:00 he returns to PHIL for HAVANALOGICA, a vinyl DJ set full of Cuban sounds.

The Doors - In The Beginning: 1966 Sessions
You picked the record for our surprise session, and today you'll hear it before anyone else, straight from the test pressing. It's a rare glimpse of a Doors session at Sunset Sound on 29 August 1966, with chatter, false starts and multiple takes of "Moonlight Drive" and "Indian Summer".

Josee Koning and her band celebrate the music of Sergio Mendes with an afternoon of Brazilian grooves, bossa nova classics and the unmistakable sound of Brasil '66.

Legendary DJ and radio host Gilles Peterson traces the records that shaped his life and career, from soul, jazz and funk to sounds from South America, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. Grab the combi ticket to catch his Vinyl Selectors set at Locael Centraal that evening too.

Holy Metal Through Blaudzun's Eyes
Blaudzun shares what the music of King's X has meant to him as an artist, talking through some of the band's finest songs with moderator Michael Struis. Frontman Doug Pinnick might even make an appearance in the conversation.

BBC Radio legend Gilles Peterson closes Het Huis van Funky Vinyl, joined by KC The Funkaholic and DJ Nobody Knows, for a vinyl journey through jazz, soul, funk, house and broken beat.

JOHAN

Blanks
Blanks is the artist project of Dutch songwriter and producer Simon de Wit, who built his fanbase through social media and found his own place in indie pop. Expect a colourful mix of catchy pop, retro influences and pure "excited about music" energy.

Bente
Bente is one of the focal points of Dutch pop music at the moment. Her second album Drift earned widespread praise, and in 2025 she sold out Koninklijk Theater Carré. Tonight she plays a special concert at PHIL, with support from Else Lena.

Heeren van Haerlem
Heeren van Haerlem close the weekend at Stiels with a non-stop live explosion of Dutch-language classics by Bløf, The Scene, Doe Maar and Hazes, with roaring brass to match.
